What to expect at your initial appointment
Dr Patrick Lau consults from ACT Specialist Centre in Deakin, Canberra. Our team is happy to help you arrange an appointment and answer any questions you may have before your visit.
Booking Your Appointment
For all appointments and enquiries, please call ACT Specialist Centre on (02) 6195 0180, or request an appointment online. You can also contact the centre by email at info@actspecialistcentre.com.au, or by fax on (02) 6147 0669.
When you first call, our team will briefly discuss your needs to help determine the right specialist and appointment for you.
Referrals and Medicare
If you are attending under Medicare, you will need a referral from your GP or another medical specialist. An appointment can be made without a referral in hand, but you will need to bring it with you when you attend. If you do not bring a referral, you may need to pay the full consultation fee without being able to claim a Medicare rebate.
Preparing for Your Appointment
To help make the most of your consultation time, it is very helpful if you can prepare a few things in advance. Please bring a list of your current medications, along with any previous medical imaging and reports. A copy of your referral is also required.
If possible, scanning and emailing or faxing this information, along with any completed questionnaire or paperwork, to the centre ahead of your appointment allows Dr Lau to be well prepared for your visit. This can be sent to info@actspecialistcentre.com.au or by fax to (02) 6147 0669. If you are unable to send this beforehand, please bring it with you and it will be reviewed prior to your consultation.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
Referral letter from your GP, family physician or other doctor
Medicare card, DVA card or pension card
Private health insurance information
List of current medications
Any relevant reports, X-rays, MRIs, CT scans or blood tests
Any other relevant medical information
Fees and Payment
As a private practice, ACT Specialist Centre does not bulk bill. Your consultation fee will be discussed with you when you book your appointment, and we appreciate this being settled on the day. Full EFTPOS and Medicare online facilities are available, and cash and cheque payments are also accepted. If your Medicare card is linked to your bank account, your rebate can be processed on the day and is generally received within twenty-four hours.
Cancelling or Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact the centre as soon as possible. As clinic and clinician time is valuable, cancellations made within 48 hours of your appointment will incur a cancellation fee equal to the consultation fee. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice on more than one occasion, you may be asked to pre-pay for future appointments.
